A classic Italian pasta dish featuring al dente spaghetti topped with a rich, slow-simmered ground beef and tomato sauce infused with aromatic herbs. This hearty and flavorful meal is perfect for a comforting dinner.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 400g spaghetti

Sauce

  • 300g ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Cook Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until they become soft and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the pan and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 7-8 minutes.
  4. Add Tomato Elements: Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes to deepen the flavor. Then, add the crushed tomatoes and beef broth to the pan, stirring to combine.
  5. Season Sauce: Mix in dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
  6. Simmer: Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken.
  7. Serve: Spoon the hearty Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Optionally, garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes

  • Simmer the sauce longer for a richer, deeper flavor.
  • Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese or fresh basil for added flavor.
  • Use lean ground beef or substitute with ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Reserve some pasta cooking water to adjust sauce consistency if needed.
