Ingredients
Chicken
- 4 chicken breasts
Toppings
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing
- 1/2 cup provolone cheese, shredded
Crust
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat and bake chicken: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the chicken breasts on a baking sheet and bake until they are nearly cooked through, about 20 minutes. This initial baking ensures the chicken is juicy and partially cooked before adding toppings.
- Add ranch and provolone: Remove the chicken from the oven and spread an even layer of ranch dressing over each breast. Then, sprinkle shredded provolone cheese on top of the ranch layer. The cheese will melt over the ranch to add creaminess.
- Prepare and apply the Parmesan crust: In a small bowl, mix together the grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and melted butter until well combined. Press this mixture firmly on top of the provolone-covered chicken breasts to form a crust.
- Broil for finishing: Switch your oven to broil. Place the chicken under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes, keeping a close watch, until the crust is golden brown and bubbly. This step creates the signature crispy, cheesy crust that completes the dish.
Notes
- Make sure not to overbroil, as the crust can burn quickly under high heat.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor and texture.
- Feel free to substitute provolone with mozzarella or cheddar for a different cheese flavor.
- This dish pairs well with a crisp green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
- Ensure chicken breasts are of even thickness for uniform cooking.
