A hearty and flavorful turkey chili featuring lean ground turkey, kidney and black beans, diced tomatoes, and warm spices. Inspired by Deer Valley Resort’s famous chili, this dish is perfect for cozy meals, easy meal prep, and comforting family dinners.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Protein & Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Beans & Tomatoes

  • 1 can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can black beans, drained
  • 1 can diced tomatoes

Liquids & Oils

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cups chicken broth

Spices & Seasonings

  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the turkey: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the ground turkey and cook until fully browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  2. Sauté onions and garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté until the onion has softened and become translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add spices: Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute to allow the spices to release their aroma.
  4. Add beans, tomatoes, and broth: Pour in the drained kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and chicken broth. Stir to combine all ingredients evenly.
  5. Simmer the chili: Reduce heat to low and let the chili simmer gently for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and blend flavors.
  6. Season and serve: Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve hot and garnish with optional toppings like cheese, sour cream, or avocado.

Notes

  • Top with shredded cheese, sour cream, or sliced avocado for added richness.
  • Adjust spice level by adding cayenne pepper or hot sauce if desired.
  • Chili flavors intensify if allowed to rest overnight, making it perfect for meal prep.
