Ingredients
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
Fruit
- 2 apples, peeled and diced (preferably firm apples like Granny Smith)
Instructions
- Brown the Butter: Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and cook until it turns a deep golden brown and becomes fragrant, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and cinnamon to ensure they are well combined and to evenly distribute the leavening agent and spices.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, milk, and cooled brown butter until smooth and fully incorporated.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the loaf tender.
- Add Apples: Fold the peeled and diced apples into the batter, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout.
- Prepare Pan and Pour Batter: Grease a loaf pan thoroughly with butter or non-stick spray. Pour the batter into the pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake: Place the loaf pan in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) and bake for 45 to 55 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center — it should come out clean or with just a few crumbs attached.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use firm apples such as Granny Smith for the best texture and to prevent mushy chunks in the loaf.
- To add extra sweetness and a classic touch, consider glazing the loaf with a simple powdered sugar glaze after it has cooled.
- You can substitute milk with almond milk or other dairy alternatives if desired.
- Ensure the brown butter has cooled slightly to avoid cooking the eggs when mixing wet ingredients.
