Ingredients
Chicken
- 2 chicken breasts
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Breading
- 1 egg
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko recommended for extra crispiness)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Toppings
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) to prepare for baking the chicken evenly and achieving a crispy crust.
- Prepare Chicken: Flatten the chicken breasts slightly to ensure even cooking, then season both sides with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning for balanced flavor.
- Breading Process: Beat the egg in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese. Dip each chicken breast into the beaten egg, then coat thoroughly with the breadcrumb mixture.
- First Bake: Place the breaded chicken breasts on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil to promote browning and crispiness. Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Add Toppings: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and spoon marinara sauce evenly over the chicken breasts. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the sauce.
- Second Bake: Return the chicken to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve the baked chicken parmesan hot, optionally accompanied by pasta or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs.
