Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
Cinnamon-Sugar Filling
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan generously to ensure the bread does not stick.
- Cream Butter, Sugar, and Egg: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy. Beat in the egg thoroughly for a homogeneous mixture.
- Add Buttermilk: Stir the cup of buttermilk into the creamed mixture until combined well.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined to form a batter.
- Layer Batter and Filling: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top and use a knife or skewer to swirl the cinnamon filling throughout the batter gently.
- Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the bread from the oven, allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
- Using buttermilk gives the bread a tender crumb and slight tang that complements the cinnamon.
- Be careful not to overmix the batter to keep the bread soft and light.
- Swirling the cinnamon-sugar mixture creates a beautiful marbled effect and distributes flavor evenly.
- This bread keeps well stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or can be frozen for longer storage.
