Ingredients
Base
- 2 slices thick bread (brioche, sourdough, or Texas toast)
Yogurt Custard
- ½ cup plain or vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings (Optional)
- Fresh berries or fruit
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the yogurt toast evenly.
- Create Wells in Bread: Press the center of each bread slice down gently with the back of a spoon to form a shallow well that will hold the yogurt mixture.
- Prepare Yogurt Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, egg, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Fill Bread Wells: Spoon the yogurt custard evenly into the wells created in each slice of bread, spreading it carefully to fill the indentation.
- Add Toppings: Optionally, top the filled bread with fresh berries or your choice of fruit for added flavor and texture.
- Bake: Place the yogurt-filled bread slices on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the yogurt filling is just set and lightly firm to the touch.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the toast to cool slightly before serving to enjoy the creamy, warm yogurt custard on crispy bread.
Notes
- Use flavored Greek yogurt such as vanilla for extra sweetness and to enhance the custard flavor.
- Feel free to add chocolate chips, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or chopped nuts into the yogurt mixture or on top for variety.
- This recipe can also be cooked in an air fryer at 350°F for 8–10 minutes as a quicker alternative to oven baking.
- Best enjoyed fresh to retain the creamy texture and crispness of the bread.
