Ingredients
French Toast
- 8 slices thick-cut bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast)
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup milk or half-and-half
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sugar
- Butter, for cooking
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Optional Toppings
- Fresh berries
- Maple syrup
- Powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare filling: In a bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
- Assemble sandwiches: Spread the filling evenly onto 4 slices of bread. Top each with the remaining bread slices to form sandwiches.
- Make egg mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk or half-and-half, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar until well combined.
- Dip sandwiches: Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are fully coated.
- Preheat skillet: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt butter to prevent sticking and add flavor.
- Cook French toast: Place the dipped sandwiches on the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through, adjusting heat as necessary to avoid burning while ensuring the filling warms.
- Serve: Serve the stuffed French toast warm topped with fresh berries, maple syrup, and a dusting of powdered sugar as desired.
Notes
- For easier cooking, let sandwiches rest 5 minutes after dipping to help absorb the egg mixture evenly.
- Add sliced strawberries or bananas inside the filling for extra flavor and texture.
- Keep the heat at medium to ensure the filling warms through without burning the bread.
- Leftovers reheat well in a skillet or toaster oven for best texture preservation.
