These spicy roasted chickpeas are a deliciously crunchy and flavorful snack that’s crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Perfect as a healthy snack, a salad topper, or a crunchy side, they are seasoned with a bold blend of smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne, and garlic powder, then roasted to perfection.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 2 cups

Ingredients

Chickpeas

  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

Seasoning & Oil

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to get it ready for roasting.
  2. Dry Chickpeas: Pat the rinsed chickpeas completely dry using a kitchen towel to help them crisp up in the oven.
  3. Season Chickpeas: Spread the dried chickpeas evenly on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat them well.
  4. Add Spices: Sprinkle smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper evenly over the chickpeas. Mix well to ensure every chickpea is coated with the seasoning.
  5. Roast: Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast the chickpeas for 25 to 30 minutes. Shake or stir the pan halfway through cooking to ensure even roasting.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the chickpeas cool slightly so they become even crispier before enjoying.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, roast the chickpeas plain for 10 minutes first, then add oil and spices before roasting the remaining time.
  • Store leftovers in an open container at room temperature to maintain their crispness, consuming within 2 days.
  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to control the heat level according to your preference.
