Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and Grease: Preheat your heart-shaped waffle iron and lightly grease it using butter or non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep waffles tender.
- Cook Waffles: Pour batter into the preheated waffle iron according to its instructions. Cook until the waffles are golden brown and cooked through, typically about 3-5 minutes per waffle.
- Serve Warm: Remove waffles from the iron and serve immediately, topped with butter, jam, fresh berries, or sour cream as desired.
Notes
- Norwegian waffles are traditionally softer and thinner than Belgian waffles.
- Serve with classic toppings such as strawberry or raspberry jam, fresh berries, or a dollop of sour cream.
- Best enjoyed fresh and warm for optimal texture.
- To keep waffles warm while cooking the rest, place them on a baking sheet in a low oven (around 200°F or 90°C).
