Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 cups mashed potatoes
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup flour or breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Oil or butter for frying
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, egg, flour (or breadcrumbs), shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Form Patties: Shape the mixture into 6 to 8 evenly sized patties, making sure they hold together firmly for frying.
- Heat Oil: Heat a generous amount of oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
- Fry Patties: Place the patties carefully into the hot skillet and fry for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until they develop a golden-brown, crispy crust and are heated through.
- Serve: Remove the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm, optionally with sour cream, chopped chives, or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- Add crispy bacon bits, fresh herbs, or chopped green onions to the potato mixture for added flavor and texture.
- Use firmly chilled mashed potatoes for best results in shaping and frying.
- An air fryer alternative: cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
