Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls made from scratch in just one hour, topped with a classic sweet glaze and perfect for weekend breakfasts.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 10 rolls

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg

Filling

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot enough for baking the cinnamon rolls evenly.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir to distribute all ingredients evenly.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Pour in the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms, ensuring all ingredients come together into a manageable dough.
  4. Knead the dough: Knead the dough briefly on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. This develops the gluten for a light texture.
  5. Roll out the dough: Roll the dough into a large rectangle, roughly 12×9 inches, preparing it for filling.
  6. Prepare the filling: Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough surface, then sprinkle the brown sugar and ground cinnamon evenly on top.
  7. Form the rolls: Carefully roll the dough tightly from one long end towards the other, creating a log. Slice the log into 10 even rolls using a sharp knife.
  8. Rest the rolls: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish spaced slightly apart. Let them rest for 15 minutes to rise slightly before baking.
  9. Bake the rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown on top.
  10. Make the glaze: While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth.
  11. Glaze and serve: Once the rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the glaze over them generously. Serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use instant yeast to keep the rise time short and efficient.
  • Best served warm to enjoy the soft, fluffy texture and sweet glaze at its peak.
