Ingredients
Chicken
- 1½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Sauce
- ¼ cup honey
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (or low-sodium soy sauce)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Garnish (optional)
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Instructions
- Season Chicken: Pat the chicken dry, then season both sides evenly with salt, black pepper, and paprika to enhance flavor.
- Cook Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5–6 minutes per side until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté Garlic: In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not burnt to release its aroma.
- Create Sauce: Stir in honey, soy sauce, and vinegar into the skillet. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer to blend the flavors.
- Thicken Sauce: In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Add this to the skillet and stir continuously until the sauce thickens to a sticky consistency.
- Coat Chicken: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet, turning to coat evenly with the thickened honey garlic sauce. Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes to allow the chicken to absorb the flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired, then serve immediately over rice, noodles, or steamed vegetables.
Notes
- Chicken thighs stay extra juicy, but chicken breasts work well for a leaner option.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice, noodles, or your favorite steamed vegetables.
- Adjust the sweetness level by reducing the honey slightly if you prefer a less sweet sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days in an airtight container.
