Ingredients
Chicken
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Honey Balsamic Glaze
- ½ cup balsamic vinegar
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce (use gluten-free soy sauce if needed)
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- ½ tsp dried thyme or Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Season the chicken: Pat the chicken breasts or thighs dry and season both sides generously with salt and black pepper to enhance flavor.
- Heat the oil: Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Sear the chicken: Place the chicken in the hot skillet and cook for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until the surface is golden brown. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
- Prepare the glaze: In the same skillet, add the balsamic vinegar, honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, and dried thyme. Stir to combine.
- Simmer the glaze: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the glaze thickens slightly.
- Glaze the chicken: Return the chicken to the skillet, spoon the glaze over each piece, and simmer for an additional 5 to 8 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and fully coated with the glaze.
- Serve: Plate the chicken and drizzle with any remaining glaze from the pan. Serve hot with your choice of sides such as vegetables, rice, or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- Chicken thighs tend to stay especially juicy and flavorful.
- The glaze sauce thickens quickly; watch closely to prevent burning.
- For variation, add mushrooms or cherry tomatoes to the skillet during glazing.
- Leftovers reheat well, retaining flavor and moisture.
