Ingredients
Chicken
- 1 lb chicken breast, grilled and sliced
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
Tzatziki Sauce
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 cucumber, grated and drained
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Dill, to taste
To Serve
- Pita bread
- Tomato slices
- Cucumber slices
- Red onion slices
Instructions
- Prepare Tzatziki Sauce: In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated and drained cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and dill. Mix thoroughly until well blended and set aside to let the flavors meld.
- Cook Chicken: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then lightly coat with olive oil. Grill or pan-fry the chicken for approximately 6-7 minutes per side or until fully cooked and juices run clear. Remove from heat and slice thinly.
- Assemble the Meal: Warm the pita bread and layer it with sliced grilled chicken, a generous spoonful of tzatziki sauce, and fresh slices of tomato, cucumber, and red onion. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Ensure cucumber is well drained to avoid a watery tzatziki sauce.
- Use fresh dill for best flavor, but dried dill can be substituted in a pinch.
- Chicken breasts can be marinated ahead of time for extra flavor, but it is optional.
- Pita bread can be warmed in the oven or on a skillet for a soft texture.
- Leftover tzatziki can be stored refrigerated for up to 2 days.
