Ingredients
Beef Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Bread and Topping
- 4 garlic bread halves
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the garlic bread and melting the cheese.
- Cook Beef and Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onions are soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Make Sloppy Joe Sauce: Add ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Mix well and let the mixture simmer gently for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Toast Garlic Bread: Arrange the garlic bread halves on a baking sheet and toast them lightly in the oven for about 5 minutes until they start to become crisp but not fully browned.
- Assemble Sloppy Joes: Spoon the beef mixture generously over each toasted garlic bread half.
- Add Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese evenly over each sloppy joe topped garlic bread.
- Bake: Return the assembled sloppy joes to the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes until the cheese melts thoroughly and bubbles.
- Serve Warm: Remove from oven and serve immediately while warm and cheesy for the best taste.
Notes
- Add diced bell peppers to the beef mixture for extra flavor and texture.
- Use Texas toast slices for thicker, more robust garlic bread that holds more topping.
