Ingredients
Meatball and Sauce
- 12 cooked meatballs (homemade or frozen)
- 2 cups marinara sauce
Sandwich
- 4 sub rolls
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the rolls and melting the cheese.
- Simmer Meatballs: In a saucepan, combine the cooked meatballs with the marinara sauce. Heat over medium heat until the meatballs are thoroughly warmed and the sauce is simmering, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: Mix the melted butter with garlic powder to create a flavorful garlic butter spread for the rolls.
- Toast Rolls: Brush the sub rolls evenly with the garlic butter mixture. Place them on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 5 minutes until slightly golden and crisp.
- Assemble Subs: Remove the toasted rolls from the oven. Fill each roll evenly with the warm meatballs and marinara sauce. Top each sandwich generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Melt Cheese: Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven and bake for 5–7 minutes or until the mozzarella is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle with fresh parsley or basil before serving. Serve the meatball subs warm for the best taste experience.
Notes
- For a different flavor, use provolone or parmesan cheese instead of mozzarella.
- Chicken or turkey meatballs can be substituted for a lighter meat option.
- These meatball subs store well and make great meal prep lunches.
