Ingredients
5–6 ripe kiwis
Optional: lemon juice (for added flavor and preservation)
Instructions
Prep the Kiwis:
Peel the kiwis and slice them into 1/4-inch rounds for even drying. Ensure the slices are of similar thickness to guarantee consistent drying.
If desired, lightly brush the slices with lemon juice to prevent browning and enhance the flavor.
Dry the Kiwi Slices:
Using a Dehydrator:
Place the kiwi slices on a dehydrator tray, ensuring there is space between each slice.
Set the dehydrator to 135°F (57°C) and dry for 4-6 hours or until fully dried.
Using an Oven:
Preheat the oven to the lowest setting (around 140°F to 170°F).
Place the baking sheet with the kiwi slices in the oven, propping the door open slightly to allow airflow.
Dry for 4-6 hours, flipping the slices halfway through.
Check for Doneness:
The dried kiwi slices should be chewy with no moisture when pressed.
Let them cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Notes
Choose Ripe Kiwis: Select firm, ripe kiwis for the best flavor; overly ripe kiwis may become mushy when dried.
Slice Evenly: To ensure consistent drying, slice each kiwi to a similar thickness.
Use Lemon Juice: Adding a small amount of lemon juice will help preserve the color and enhance the flavor of the kiwi slices.
Test Dryness: When the kiwi slices feel leathery with no visible moisture, they are ready.
