Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 loaf bread, cubed
- 4 eggs
- 1½ cups milk
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
- Prepare the crockpot: Grease the inside of the crockpot to prevent the casserole from sticking and ensure easy serving.
- Layer the bread: Place the cubed bread evenly in the greased crockpot, creating the base of your casserole.
- Mix custard: In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and melted butter until fully combined and smooth.
- Combine and cook: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread cubes in the crockpot, making sure all pieces are well-coated.
- Slow cook: Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or on high for 2 hours, or until the custard is set and the casserole is cooked through.
- Serve warm: Once cooked, serve the casserole warm with optional toppings such as powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
Notes
- Top with powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream for added flavor and presentation.
- Use day-old bread for best texture, as it soaks up the custard better.
- For a richer flavor, try using half-and-half or heavy cream instead of milk.
- The casserole can be refrigerated and reheated for leftovers.
