Ingredients
Chicken and Coating
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crispiness)
Toppings and Cooking
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the chicken after searing.
- Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper to enhance flavor.
- Coat the Chicken: Dredge each chicken breast first in the all-purpose flour, ensuring an even coating. Next, dip them into the beaten eggs, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs to form a crispy exterior when cooked.
- Pan-Sear the Chicken: Heat the olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Place the breaded chicken breasts in the skillet and brown them for about 3–4 minutes on each side until golden and crisp.
- Prepare for Baking: Transfer the seared chicken breasts to a baking dish. Top each breast with one slice of deli ham and one slice of Swiss cheese to infuse savory and melty richness.
- Bake the Chicken: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F/74°C) and the cheese is nicely melted.
- Serve Warm: Remove the chicken from the oven and serve immediately, optionally with honey mustard dipping sauce to enhance the flavors.
Notes
- Serve with honey mustard dipping sauce for added zest.
- Using panko breadcrumbs results in an extra crispy coating.
- Ensure the chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F for food safety.
- Substitute Swiss cheese with mozzarella or provolone for a different flavor profile.
