Ingredients
For the Cake:
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4 cup milk (any kind)
2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter (or neutral oil)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon chocolate chips (for the gooey center)
Optional Garnishes:
Powdered sugar
Whipped cream
Instructions
Combine the Dry Ingredients:
In a 12 oz microwave-safe mug, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and granulated sugar using a fork until well combined.
Add the Wet Ingredients:
Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
Add the Chocolate Center:
Gently press chocolate chips into the center of the batter. Do not mix them in—this will create the gooey, molten center.
Microwave the Cake:
Microwave the mug on high for 50-60 seconds. The top should be set but still slightly soft to the touch. Avoid overcooking to keep the center molten.
Garnish and Serve:
Remove the mug carefully from the microwave and let it cool for 1-2 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar, add a dollop of whipped cream, or enjoy it straight from the mug with a spoon!
Notes
Choose the Right Mug: Ensure your mug holds at least 12 oz to prevent overflow. It should also be microwave-safe.
Don’t Overcook: Mug cakes cook quickly. Start with 50-60 seconds, then add a few more seconds if necessary to avoid a dry texture.
Molten Center Hack: Add a dollop of Nutella or a piece of chocolate in place of chocolate chips for an extra gooey surprise.
Sift Cocoa Powder: To achieve a smoother texture, sift the cocoa powder before adding it to the mixture.
