Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup whole wheat flour (or sub all-purpose)
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp ground cardamom
- ¼ tsp ground cloves
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional Add-ins
- ½ cup chopped nuts (walnuts/pecans) or raisins
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the bread after baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and all the chai spices — cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg. This blend creates the flavorful base for your bread.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, vegetable oil (or melted butter), eggs, milk (or alternative), and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Combine Mixtures: Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender and moist.
- Add Optional Ingredients: Stir in chopped nuts or raisins if using, to add texture and variety to the loaf.
- Prepare for Baking: Pour the batter into the lined loaf pan and smooth the top evenly.
- Bake: Bake the bread for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating it is fully cooked.
- Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Notes
- For extra texture and a decorative touch, sprinkle oats and cinnamon sugar on top of the batter before baking.
- Store the bread covered at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
- This bread freezes well and can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
