This Cardamom Orange Bread is a fragrant and cozy loaf infused with warm cardamom spice and fresh orange flavor, perfect for a bakery-style treat that’s both aromatic and comforting.

  • Total Time: 1 hr
  • Yield: 1 loaf (about 10-12 slices)

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tbsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cardamom until fully combined and aerated.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs lightly then add the milk, fresh orange juice, melted butter, and orange zest. Stir until well combined.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently fold and stir until just incorporated, being careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
  4. Prepare for Baking: Grease a standard loaf pan and pour the batter evenly into the pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  5. Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool Before Slicing: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing to ensure it holds together well.

Notes

  • For an elegant touch, sprinkle powdered sugar on top once cooled.
  • Store the bread wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • You can substitute orange juice with fresh lemon juice for a citrus twist.
