Juicy and flavorful boneless chicken breasts topped with melted fresh mozzarella, ripe tomato slices, aromatic basil leaves, and a drizzle of tangy balsamic glaze, creating a classic Italian-inspired main course perfect for any meal.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Toppings

  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella slices
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the chicken after searing.
  2. Season chicken: Pat the chicken breasts dry, then season both sides generously with salt and black pepper to enhance the flavor.
  3. Sear chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook until golden brown on each side, approximately 3-4 minutes per side. This step locks in juices and adds a delicious crust.
  4. Add toppings: Place seared chicken breasts on a baking dish. Evenly layer fresh mozzarella slices and tomato slices on top of each breast.
  5. Bake: Transfer the dish to the preheated oven and bake for 15–20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle fresh basil leaves over the top, and drizzle with balsamic glaze for a tangy finish. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Serve with pasta, garlic bread, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
  • Using cherry tomatoes instead of standard tomatoes can provide a sweeter, more concentrated flavor.
  • Make sure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
  • For a twist, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of pesto before serving.
