Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 loaf day-old bread, cubed
- 3 ripe bananas, sliced
Custard Mixture
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is at the correct temperature for baking the casserole.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and make serving easier.
- Layer Bread and Bananas: Evenly layer the cubed day-old bread and sliced bananas in the prepared baking dish, alternating if desired for an even distribution.
- Make Custard: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth and fully combined.
- Pour Custard: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the layered bread and bananas, making sure to coat all pieces.
- Soak Bread: Gently press down on the bread cubes with a spatula to help them absorb the custard mixture thoroughly.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving to let it set further and become easier to slice.
Notes
- For deeper flavor and better custard absorption, let the casserole soak overnight in the refrigerator before baking.
- Serve with maple syrup or whipped cream for added sweetness and richness.
